Inquiry into lift accident at Killarney Plaza
Officials from the Health and Safety Authority have started their investigations into how a lift carrying five patrons fell from the second floor of the four star Killarney Plaza hotel on Saturday afternoon eventually crashing into the basement car park.
It was reported that when the accident took place the lift contained five guests thought to be from Dublin and Meath. The parties concerned are believed to have been in Killarney in order to attend a wedding and were on their way to the reception in the hotel ballroom at around 2.30 pm. It is thought that those concerned were three brothers and two of their wives. The fire service, Garda and up to five ambulances attended the scene of the accident at the junction of Kenmare Place and Killarney Main Street. The five guests were freed from the lift when members of the fire service managed force it open. The injured patrons were then transferred to the accident and emergency unit of Kerry General Hospital in Tralee where it was confirmed that no one was seriously hurt and that they were being treated for broken bones and shattered ankles. Two people were later discharged from the hospital whilst three others were kept in over night.
